The Untold Story of Japanese American Internment in Louisiana In-Person
Did you know that from 1942 to 1943, more than 1,000 men of Japanese ancestry were held in Camp Livingston, an internment camp in the pine forests of central Louisiana? After six years of intense research, LSU librarians Hayley Johnson and Sarah Simms have published Beneath Heavy Pines in World War II Louisiana: The Japanese American Internment Experience at Camp Livingston. Their new book approaches the camp's history via the experiences of two families, the Miyamotos and Koharas, and provides a critical exploration of a forgotten chapter of American history.
